Half Case of Cancers Occurs Due to Lifestyle

bad lifestyle cause cancer
Lifestyle could make a person suffer from cancer. According to data from the Cancer Research UK, tobacco is the highest cause with 23 percent of cases (in men) and 15.6 percent (in women) of all cancer cases that occur throughout the year. The next cause is the lack of eating vegetables and fruits in the diet of men, and overweight in women.
The findings were published in the British Journal of Cancer, as quoted by the online edition of BBC. The author says this is the most comprehensive analysis than ever before.
According to lead author, Prof. Max Parkin, “Many people believe that cancer is genetically inherited or is a destiny, and it becomes like a lucky draw for anyone affected.”
However, he said, “Given all the evidence, it is clear that about 40 percent of all cancer cases are caused by something that we all have the power to change.”
For men, said Parkin, the best advice is to quit smoking while taking notice of his weight. “We did not think that eating fruits and vegetables were important in protecting the body from cancer disease. While in women, we did not suspect that being overweight is more risky than alcohol. ”
In all, there are 14 environmental and lifestyle factors, such as location of residence and the type of work done- a combination of both – causes 134 thousand cases of cancer in the UK per year. Approximately 100 thousand (34 percent) of cancer cases are related to smoking habits, diet, alcohol, and overweight. One of the 25 cases of cancersassociated with a person’s job, such as exposure to chemicals or asbestos. In addition, some cancer risk factors are known, such as smoking-related lung cancer. While others are less known.
For example, for breast cancer, nearly 10 risk comes from being overweight or obese. No matter whether being overweight is a result of breastfeeding or because of other factors. After it, comes the one caused by alcoholic beverages.
Researchers base their calculations predicted the occurrence of this case based on 18 different types of cancer that occurred during 2010 in England. The data used for 15 years from 1993 to 2007.
Dr. Rachel Thompson of the World Cancer Research Fund says the report adds that, “Now it is very strongly proved that the risk of cancer is our lifestyle.”
While Dr. Harpal Kumar, Chief Executive of Cancer Research UK, reveals that a healthy lifestyle does not guarantee someone will not get cancer. However, he said, the results of this study indicate, “We can reduce our bad habits.”
